If I may, a few unknown facts about Jesus Montero that you may not know.
Jesus Montero doesn't walk on water, he walks over it.
After Jesus Montero hit the homerun off the M, George changed the M. from Micheal to Montero.
Johnathon Papelbon has Monterophobia.
Anytime a pitcher throws a fastball to Montero, he retires in shame of what happens.
Jesus Montero is a Catcher only because they told him he was to good at every other position.
Nick Swisher struck out a batter? Montero struck out the side, in 8 pitches.
Jesus Montero's pinkie holds more power in his pinkie than Dustin Pedroia can dream of.
I know, they're terrible and cheesy but it's 130am and I'm bored.
For some strange reason I like this signing. He's kinda resurrected his career as a reliever with his two very solid seasons in Philly
Word on the street is he'll be the long man so Gaudin or Mitre will probably be traded -- or Christian Garcia will be taken off the 40-man
I am still wondering why we signed him, unless they are truly looking for him to compete for a spot on the pitching staff, no matter if its the rotation or the bullpen.
Im not really sure what he has left though or if he can really beat out guys like Mitre or Gaudin.
I love Jesus! He is soo freaking good. I dont understand it. How can a guy so far along with his bat be still in the minor leagues? Who cares, his defense isnt that far along. Thats why their is a position known as the "Designated Hitter"! I mean, Montero is just utterly dominant. There is no way he starts this season anywhere below AAA. I would not be surprised if he is called up at some point over the year just because of his bat.
I saw a picture on RAB sometime over the summer, I think, of a sign that read "Jews for Jesus" with Montero in it. Needless to say, that fits me perfectly, since I am jewish, lol.
We've done these before. I believe there has been numerous Joba Chamberlain man crush threads, a couple Phil Hughes man crush threads, and a dozen Shelley Duncan man crush threads - so why keep everyone's favorite pitching prospect out of the fun.
Today, as you may have seen in our Spring Training wrap up - Montero hit a towering homer off the "M" in "George M. Steinbrenner" on top of the center field score board. Montero's power is the stuff of legend, and his defense seems to be coming along well. The best part of Montero: Jorge Posada loves him and has no problem grooming the young phenom as his replacement.
What is everyone's thoughts on Jesus? Is he one of those guys that never really develops to his potential or do you think he's the real deal? When do you think he will make an impact on the major league team? If Cervelli severely underperforms this season as Jorge's backup - could you see Montero getting time in the majors (personally, I think the Yankees will hold him in the minors so he will get more consistent playing time)?
You know how these are done, talk about the young guy - your deepest thoughts and feelings about him - hell, throw in a couple Chuck Norris type statements too, because I'm sure that Jesus Montero's tears cure more than just cancer.
